| Alloy Front Mounted Intercooler kit with necessary piping and fittings.
The standard fitment intercooler system on the Audi TT comprises of a single wheel arch mounted intercooler on the 180 bhp model and a dual installation on the 225 bhp model. In order to connect the two intercoolers the 225 bhp model utilizes the bracing tube that runs across the front of the TT. The engine power output is influenced by the charge air temperature. The higher the charge air temperature is, the less power the engine will produce. So in warm climate conditions or when the turbo is producing higher boost pressure the engine output will be reduced or in extreme conditions the ECU will instigate electronic regulation to prevent any damages to the engine through overheating. By the installation of a more efficient, front mounted intercooler, it is possible to cool the charge air temperature further, resulting in more power or to at least maintain the power that would otherwise be lost. This can be more noticeable where the engine has been modified which often takes the OEM intercoolers out of their optimum design criteria. The Forge Motorsport unit has been designed to keep the overall pressure drop across the system to a minimum while achieving a high reduction in the charge air temperature without inducing unwanted turbo lag characteristics. An open core design allows minimum resistance to the air passing through the unit so as not to create significant problems with the oil cooler and radiator which are mounted behind. The maximum inlet air temperatures reached are now far lower with this unit than previously seen. |
